What this quoting system health check is for
A quoting system is the whole path from a customer's document to a signed number: who reads, who decides scope, where the rules live, who can be lost, and whether the process ever learns from a built job. Most companies can describe the middle of it only by naming a person. This check asks the twelve questions we ask on the first day of a quoting system audit, two per area, and scores them the same way.
The score is not a verdict. A low score is the normal condition of a custom manufacturer that has grown around one good estimator, and nothing in it is fixed by buying software first. What the score does is rank the six areas, so you know which of the five audit instruments to run first: the quote genealogy, the two estimator test, the rule capture ratio, the single point of failure register or the feedback check. All five are explained in full on the manufacturing quoting process page, and all five can be run without a vendor.
The last two questions are different. They do not measure health; they place you in a lane. A company whose quotes start from a catalogue and options should buy a configurator and stop reading our site. A company whose quotes start from three hundred pages somebody else wrote, describing a thing that has not been designed yet, is in the lane a quoting engine exists for. What does the quoting system health check measure?
Six areas, two questions each: whether reading has an owner and an output, how far two estimators would diverge on the same package, whether the pricing rules are written where a new hire could find them, which people and files quoting cannot run without, whether quoted cost is ever compared with actual cost, and which tooling lane the company is in.
Is the health check the same as a quoting system audit?
No. The health check is a five minute self assessment scored on the page. The audit runs the five instruments on your archive with your estimators over two to three weeks and ends in a written buy, build or combine recommendation.
Does the health check send my answers anywhere?
No. The questions are scored in your browser and nothing you enter is stored or transmitted. There is no email gate.
Who should answer it?
The person who owns quoting commercially: a VP of sales, a general manager, a CIO running a quoting project, or an owner. It is more useful when a senior estimator answers it separately and the two scores are compared.
