Ballooning software places a numbered balloon on every inspectable characteristic of an engineering drawing: each dimension, tolerance, GD&T callout, note, and finish requirement. The numbered list becomes the backbone of the first article report: AS9102 Form 3 for aerospace, PPAP dimensional results for automotive, ISIR or EMPB for European customers, or a plain first article report when the customer just asks for one.

If a customer sends you a drawing and expects parts made to it, you have this job. It does not matter whether the shop machines, cuts sheet metal, welds, or runs EDM: the print is the common denominator, and someone has to account for every characteristic on it. Where auto-ballooning actually loses you time

Every vendor markets a detection rate around 85 to 90 percent. The number that matters is not the rate; it is where the misses concentrate, because the misses are exactly the characteristics that take longest by hand:

General note tolerances
The note says ISO 2768-mK and 47 dimensions on the print carry no individual tolerance. Detection tools balloon the dimension and leave the tolerance cell for you, one lookup at a time, by size range. Mavlon applies the right value to each dimension automatically.
Fit classes
The print says 9 H7. The Form 3 needs 9.000 to 9.015. Detection tools carry the designation; the expansion to actual limits is your job. Mavlon expands every fit class it finds.
GD&T datum references
Feature control frames get detected, but datum references arrive incomplete often enough that every frame needs checking. Mavlon reads the full frame, modifiers included.
Flag notes
Flag note 6 applies to three features across two sheets. No balloon is wrong, but the requirement lives nowhere until someone maps it. Mavlon maps flag notes to their features.
Cross-sheet and finish requirements
Surface classes and finish callouts on the last sheet, features duplicated across views: the places a tired reader skips are the places detection skips too. Mavlon reads every sheet as one drawing.
